A Christmas block, some community service and a little bit of knitting.

Tuesday night I made my Christmas block for our group.  Since I made the block, my name will be put into a drawing to win other blocks like this.  This was a fun block to do. This will be turned in tonight at our Christmas party....I hope I win, I like this block a lot.

Last night, I had to fix some dishes for my husband to take to work today for his Christmas party.  I mixed up a batch of brownies and a Broccoli cheese casserole. While these were cooking, I decided to finish up some pillows I made for breast cancer patients.  I stuffed these and finished them up. Here's six pillows for community service....I give these to the hospital I work for but also give some to our group and they are passed onto the American Cancer Society for them to pass out to breast cancer patients.  We will be working on these in February next year to give to them...

I've also been making/knitting washcloths for a friend of mine.  She asked me to make her 24 washcloths.  I've done 14 so far...here's some of them. the top one was crocheted but all the others were knitted.  I'm bored with these and not sure if I'll do all the twenty four... I'm also working on more scarves and have three of those going right now and have more to do for Christmas presents.  Not enough time to do it all!  I'm quickly running out of time!

So far, that's all I have for today but I'm going to my Christmas party tonight and we are all supposed to bring Christmas quilts to show. So, I'll be taking pics and share those with you soon.  til next time, happy stitching.

Some finishes for December

Hello everyone and happy holidays. Yes, my posts have been very sporadic this year and I apologize. We have had so many changes at home, it is hard to even think about blogging.  We have had a lot of power outages at the house due to weather, wind or whatever excuse the Electric people can think of. I've had to reset my computer, clocks and everything else so many times, I've just about quit doing it.  Yes, I have a lot of excuses for not blogging but  I still plan on it so please bear with me if you will.  I have been busy elsewhere and I have a lot of finishes to show you...

So, I'll try to catch up some now and a little later too.
I did finish binding my little quilt I showed you in my last post and it is so cute.  Here's the finished product.

I quilted this little quilt next. This is just a small wallhanging. I got the pattern out of an older but precious book from Little Quilts.   I love these books as they have so many quick and easy projects to do that give you satisfaction quickly....

Next on my list is a quilt I made all from scraps from another quilt. This pattern was called Le Jardin and it was very simple to do too.

This one is a Yellow Brick Road quilt I made for my youngest grandson.  This one has animals on it and will fit his twin bed. I should have taken a picture of the back of the quilt but you would not have been able to see anything else after that as it would have put your eyes out...It is bright yellow animal print but I think he'll love it.

I made this one up from a panel. I'll give this one to my youngest granddaughter.

These pillows are for my oldest grandson's bedroom. He has animal prints and horns and skulls all over his room and I think he'll like these.

I made a large iron caddy for me so I can take my iron to retreats with me.

This is a small quilt I did for community service.  It turned out so sweet.

On Friday, last week, Dec 6th, we had ice here in Texas and it was so bad that I got to stay home and have a rest day.  My electricity was off for 22 hours but I had my little ott light and a great fireplace and I sat around the fireplace and knitted the two scarves in the middle and right.  I finished the scarf on the left side last night and it is a Christmas gift for a friend I'll be seeing tonight.  The silver scarf is a gift for one of my Doctors and the brown, furry one is a gift for my oldest granddaughter.  These are so fun and easy to make. I've just stared another one and I have about six more to do for gifts for the office.  I'll show you those when they are all done.

I made this sweet little man Sunday. He stands about 18" tall and was fun to make. I have been pulling stuff out of my stash and trying to finish things I've been wanting to make for years.  Why?  No reason, just needed easy things to do when my inspiration was lacking....Anyway, I do have some other finishes to show you but that's all I have time for right now. I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season and you are not too stressed out yet.

So, happy holidays and I'll show you more later this week. til next time, happy sewing!

Some orange rainbow blocks and a few hats!

Here's what I've been working on today while the grandbaby is asleep.  I was able to finish these rainbow blocks and I did my orange boxed in block too.  These are fun and quick too.  I'm loving these. Go check out what others are doing too on the Rainbow challenge...

Here's my orange Boxed in Block for this month.

My design wall with the other blocks I've made.  It's a work in progress.

And, last but not least, here's some hats that will be given to the Community service person this week for cancer patients.  Uh, I'm not sure if these will be too hot now that it's getting warm weather but maybe they'll come in handy for night time wear...  I like the blue one in the middle cause it is reversible. It can be white with blue cuff, or blue with white cuff.  These are all made out of fleece.

Ok, gotta go for now.  I've got to get busy and work on my tension problem with my machine. I have some ideas that I hope will solve the problem. I'll update later...Now, go sew or enjoy the beautiful day outside!

My first finish this year.

I listened to some podcasts today of Pat Sloan.  I haven't had the chance to listen to these and had 14 to listen to.  I didn't get to listen to all of them but I did catch up a little bit while I was quilting on this little charity quilt.  I'll be giving this one to my guild this week...These were just little floral blocks that someone in the guild cut out and I put them together.   I machine quilted this one with leaves and little flowers.  The stitching wasn't great but you gotta practice, right?  Anyway, it's finished and ready for gifting....

Sewing for the week, Friday night sewing and Saturday sewing

This week has just flown by.  I have been so busy and haven't had the time to post a thing.  I have sewn a little bit this week. I haven't finished anything this week except for a few blocks. Block by block, piece by piece, a little at a time, creates a finished project, or at least that's what I tell myself...So, I don't feel too badly when I don't finish something.

Last night I went to sit and sew with some friends at the church.  I decided I would cut things out before I went and I got nearly everything sewn together that I took.  I felt so good and was so glad I got so much done.  I sewed my D9P together and decided to make a few more blocks to make it bigger.  I sewed three other blocks together for one of my UFO's, I think it's UFO 2 on my list and I sewed all the flower blocks for my border on the purple baby quilt.  Now, I need to make the leaves and vines sections and I'll be able to put the border together.  Sorry, I didn't take any pictures of these but I will and I'll post them later...

Today, I went and sewed with my sewing guild friends.  We were sewing on our community projects for the year.  I made a turtle. Yes, you heard me right.  A turtle.  It is so cute...I have three more to sew together. My group is one of many of the ASG (American Sewing Guild) and the community service project nationwide is to make turtle pillows for Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Camp.  We got together today and worked on those...Here's a picture of my cute turtle all done and ready for stuffing. We don't have to stuff these ourselves, we make them and send them to our headquarters.  They are gathering them up and a sewing guild in California will stuff these and sew them shut and deliver them to the camp.  These are alot of fun to make...I have two more to sew up.

I haven't measured these but I'm guessing these are about twenty inches long by about fourteen inches wide.  They are pretty big and will take quite a bit of stuffing.  I hope the kids like them...

My finished hats

Saturday night, I finished knitting up a little flower to go on my hat.  I had crocheted a blue rose to put on the other one previously during the week. I attached both of these to the hats and they are now ready to give.  Here's the finished products.  I think they turned out really cute and I plan on making more of these...These are both for charity and they were fun to make...

This little flower is knitted.  The hat pattern and knitted flower were both free patterns from the Joann's website....

I made the crochet rose last week.  It was also a free pattern but it was from Lion Brand Yarn website.

Friday sewing

I was off today. My husband was off today too. He woke me up asking if I wanted to go shopping. Uh, no, I do not want to fight the crowds of Black Friday... so he went out by himself and I went up to sew. I decided that since it was Thanksgiving, I wanted to do some charity sewing. I am thankful for being healthy this year and hoping these few items that I'm making will help someone feel a little more comfortable. I made three of these chemo hats.

I just put the Brooch and rose on them to see how I liked them.  I like the rose but not in this color, so I'll be crocheting a rose to decorate the blue hat.  The other blue hat will not get any decoration.  I think I'll leave it as is.  It is smaller and I think will be ok for a man.  The beige cap will have a different king of flower or decoration on it...I'm not sure yet what I'll do with it.  These were quick and easy to make and our group got the pattern from Hancock Fabrics for these chemo hats.  I think I'll be making more of these but I'll be doing some for my grandkids. I think I'll make them a scarf too to go along with the hat.  This would make a quick Christmas gift.
After I made the hats, I then made two Walker Bags.  These were also fairly quick and easy to make.  I made one for a woman and one for a man.

I made 6 siggy blocks and now I need to embroider them.  I received three siggies this week.

This one came from Italy.

This one came from Belgium

This one also came from Belgium.  These two were from a Mother and daughter.
I cut out 16 more blocks for my Crazy 8 quilt.  I'll be sewing those together tomorrow and that will be enough to put that quilt together.  My husband is going to play golf, my son will be at work, so I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and do some more sewing. Oh my, that's going to be really tough!  Yeah, more time to sew.

I just finished crocheting a navy blue rose for one of the hats.  Now, I gotta decide what to do for the beige hat.  I think I'll do another rose....I'll show you those tomorrow.  Til next time...
