Rainbow Scrap Green and Civil War Quilt-another Get It Done challenge off the list!

I worked on my green blocks this weekend.  I got eight green blocks finished. These are Crossroads blocks and I wanted to go back and do the previous months rainbow colors but didn't get around to it yet. I do plan on doing that but wanted to work on putting together my Civil War quilt too....

Here's my Crossroads blocks:
These blocks are easy and fun to do. I saw these on other blogs that are participating in the Rainbow Scrap challenge and loved them.  The tutorial was on Connie's blog, Freemotion by the River, her tutorial is great.  She gives you 3 different size blocks to make. Mine are 9" blocks but I plan on doing 12" blocks too. This one is going to be for me. I want to make the  12" blocks for communtity service quilts.

Saturday morning I was repairing a baby blanket for my granddaughter and wasn't paying attention. I got too close to the needle and sewed through my thumb.  Boy, did that hurt.  The needle broke but luckily it didn't break off in my thumb.  That stopped my sewing for the day.  I had to go to my grandson's soccer game anyway so I turned the machine off and doctored my thumb...

I came back later and started sewing my borders together for my Civil War quilt.  I put the center together during the week and just had to get the borders on....I worked on it a little Saturday night and finished it up today after the kids left.  My husband held it up but you can't really see the border on the bottom two pics so I did a closer view of the border in the third picture.

Here's the border.  This quilt was a swap quilt all last year.  We made 5 blocks each month, kept 1 and exchanged 4 of the blocks. I really like this quilt and think it will be wonderful all quilted up.  This is number two of my Get It Done challenge finished for the month!

Now, it's time for bed. I hope you enjoy your week and get lots of sewing done.  I also hope you didn't have to pay any money and you get lots of money back from the IRS so you can buy lots of fabric goodies!  Happy Stitching!

Get it Done Challenge, Rainbow Scrap Green and book drawing!

I haven't been very busy this weekend.  I went and sewed with my friends at the church Friday night and I had a great time with them.  I didn't have to pick up the grandbaby so I stayed longer and sewed longer.  I got some blocks sewn together for my scrappy Carolina Chain quilt and got to visit too.

I thought I would sleep late Saturday since Carmen wasn't here to wake me up but another grandchild, Trent had an early soccer game.  We went to watch him play soccer (well, he ran around on the field more than he played) along with all the other 4 year olds learning to play!  It was fun to watch.  My husband and I had some errands to run and we ran around all day. I didn't get any sewing in at all yesterday but I did have fun and rested too.

I got up early and sewed this morning and now I'm going to sew a little bit more too.  I did finish putting the binding on my scrappy half square triangle quilt earlier in the week and wanted to show you that one.  I worked on this one all last year as a leader/ender project and finished putting it together and gave it to my friend to quilt for me.  I got it back and finally put the binding on to call this one a finish. This is the second one I've made like this.  The first one was made a long time ago, maybe 8-10 years at least, with my small quilting group.  We made it as a swap quilt. I made mine and gave it away. I saw the pattern in my files last year and decided I would remake it for me.  I started making these randomly and just throwing them in a box when I got through with one and they started piling up...it's fun to see a project come to life after you haven't really been "working" on it..  That's why I like the Leader/Ender method. You work on a project and don't really even work at it until you have alot of pieces to put together.  I have two more Leader/Ender projects in the works now and I'm not sure how big they'll be... This one is on my Get It Done Challenge list for April, so I can mark one off my list!

I also wanted to show you my blocks I finished this morning and Friday night....
This month is green for the Rainbow scrap challenge and I pulled out some green scraps to work with.  I made my Boxed in Block for this month and  the others are The Carolina Chain blocks I've been doing all year.

I made 20 blocks Friday night and then two more blocks this morning along with the Boxed in Block.  Now, I'm sewing on my Civil War quilt and later today, I've got a binding to sew too for slow stitch Sunday.

One last thing, don't forget to go to the post below and leave a comment if you haven't already. I'm giving away books for the Giving Quilt and the drawing is today.  You have until 6:00, Central Time and then I'm going to draw.

My Get It Done Challenge Accomplishments and Goals for this month.

I was supposed to post my goals yesterday, the last day of the month but never got around to it due to the holiday..so, I'm doing it now. but first,I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter holiday. Mine was wonderful.  All my kids and grandkids came over and we had lunch, then hunted Easter eggs in the living room...It stormed earlier in the morning and the ground was wet and water standing everywhere.  We then just sat around and watched Kung Fu Panda on TV and the adults either slept on the floor(my oldest son) and the others (my DIL's and youngest son)  sat and played on the computer or their Ipads, Iphones or whatever...I enjoyed watching TV with the grandkids then we went outside and played hopscotch on the front porch and drew on the sidewalk with chalk.  It was a fun and restful day with loved ones...I hope you got to spend some time with your families as well.

Here were my Goals for March:

 March Challenge List

Bind my Thimbleberries Garden Quilt-done 03-05-13

Quilt & Bind the Brown Bow Tie Quilt - done- 03-11-13

Quilt & Bind the Red Scrap Quilt -done

Quilt & Bind the 2nd D4P Quilt -done

As you can see, I met all of my goals!  Woohoo! I was so pleased with myself for this. I am really enjoying this challenge and getting some of my quilts, whether large or small off my To-Do list...

Now, I've thought about it and have decided what my Goals are for this month...

April Get It Done Goals:

1. Make at least 30 more blocks for my Floating Four Patch Quilt)

2. Bind the Scrappy Half Square triangle quilt

3. Quilt and bind the purple/gold tablerunner
4. Put together the Civil War Quilt and at least get it ready for quilting

Ok, there's my list and I hope I can achieve these. I'm not trying to over extend myself but I'm also not trying to make these goals too easy either.  I want to feel like I'm accomplishing something and not be bummed out about not having any finishes either...So, hopefully these are attainable for me this month...  I'll be linking to Patchwork Times now and hope you guys will joing the challenge too.   Have a great week and happy stitching!

Some finishes for the week,D4P, D9P, Getting it Done Challenge and some tatting too!

I've been meaning to update my blog and just haven't sat down long enough to do it.  I've been trying to finish some things up before the end of the month and time just got away from me...

All of my challenges have been done for this month!  Woo hoo! I'm so glad to be able to  say that.  I have come in every day and just couldn't wait to get to my sewing machine.  Here's some of my finishes for this month  I finished binding this one last Sunday night while watching my grandkids.  This is the second D4P and it is for my youngest granddaughter's birthday in April.

I made this  pink scrap brick quilt last year (some people call this Streak of Lightning) and finally finished hand quilting this one last week.  Nothing special, I just stitched in the ditch on the bricks and just a lattice or chain on the small border. I just wanted to hand stitch this one. I haven't hand quilted in a while and I thought this one would get me back in the groove.  I really enjoyed quilting this one and finished binding this one Thursday night late after my small group meeting.

This is easy to make.  3 1/2" squares and 3 1/2" X 6 1/2" rectangles.  You repeat the same 4 strips three times and it will make your streak.  Easy, peasy, and quick too..Have fun with this one.

I finished this one today.  I quilted it Saturday night and late Sunday night and then sewed the binding on. I hand sewed the binding today and now it's done. I took off work today to go to the dentist and I stopped and visited with some of my friends at the church. Today was their quilting day and they were hand quilting on three quilts. The church we meet at has a room for the quilters and there is a sewing machine and three hand quilting frames always set up for them.  There are about 12-15 ladies that come on Tuesdays to work on their quilts.  I go there on Friday nights and sew with some of them.  I sat today and hand quilted with them for awhile. It was fun and relaxing and I got to see some friends I haven't seen in a long time.  Alot of these women come on Fridays but not all of them.  I used to be in the guild with them and I don't go to that guild anymore. I miss the ladies but just can't go to everything I want to. I wish they met on a different night so I could go.  Why is it that all the groups want to meet on the same night?

The D4P and this one was on my challenge list for the month. I made my son and DIL a queen sized quilt out of these fabrics and these were leftovers from that project. I had enough to make this small lap quilt.

I quilted on this one Saturday while Carmen was asleep and finished binding it Sunday night too.   I made this small quilt last year when I was doing the Thimbleberries sew days on the last Wednesday of the month.  This is a small wallhanging and it was alot of fun to do...

This one is  a D9P I finally put the border on.  I was doing a QAL for this one and I'm still going to do more D9P quilts.  These are fast and easy to do and I want to do some bigger ones to use up my scraps. I started out with this one to see if I liked doing them. Now that I know I like them, I'll do more. I'm going to quilt this one using a pantograph and hope it looks ok.  I just got my back arms for my longarm machine and I need to try them out..

And, I finished this tatted cross last Tuesday.  This is called the Tennessee Cross and I got the pattern from one of my tatting friends.  This was fun and easy to do and I want to do another one.

Well, so far that's what I have to show for the end of the month.  Now, I've got some knitting to do for a friend.  So, it's TV time for me.  I hope you are having a good week and get lots of sewing time in too...

A Small Finish

All right, another off my list of the Get It Done Challenge! I'm so glad Kathy started the Slow Stitching Sunday, it has really helped me to sit down and do some hand work...This is number two on my challenge list for this month.  Now, I'm going to put the third one on the quilting machine and see if I can get it quilted this week and ready for binding next Sunday!

This one was just demo blocks that I had laying around and I decided to put them together and make a community service quilt out of it.  These are 3D bow tie blocks and are really fun to make.  I just used scraps to make these and never planned on it being a quilt but I decided to make use of these.  I have alot of other blocks that I've made over the years and I'm going to start putting those together too for scrappy quilts.  That's going to be one of my challenges to myself this year...maybe I can clean out some of my bins for some new fabric!

Slow Sunday Stitching

Well, I just got back from the Dallas Quilt Show and it was great. I got to spend some time with a good friend and we walked around and did some shopping first then looked at all the wonderful quilts.  I forgot my camera but I did take a few pictures with my phone.   I'll try to post those later if I can figure it out!  Now, I'm going to watch a little bit of TV and bind this little quilt that I quilted on Friday and finished up yesterday. I'll be joining Kathy with Slow Sunday  and resting my aching feet!  Here's a snippet of the quilt I'll be binding.  This is a 3D Bow Tie quilt. It is also on my Get It Done Challenge list for this month....I hope you have enjoyed your weekend and gotten to sew just a little.

Get it Done: February Report and March Goals

So, my goals for February were:

Quilt & Bind the Red Scrap Quilt - didn't get done...

Quilt & Bind the Brown Bow Tie Quilt - didn't get this one done either.

Quilt & Bind the Christmas Star Tablerunner-Done 02-07-13

Bind my Thimbleberries Garden quilt, binding is sewn on but needs to be hand stitched down.

I only got one of my goals done for the month.  I did sew the binding on my Thimbleberries quilt last night but I haven't hand stitched the back down yet.  I want to finish this one on Sunday if I can so it will go on my March list....
Goals for March:

1. Bind my Thimbleberries Garden quilt
2. Quilt and Bind the Brown Bow Tie Quilt
3. Quilt and bind the Red Scrap quilt.
4. Quilt and bind the 2nd D4P quilt

Ok, there's my list...I am making myself accountable and by making this short list each month I'll be focused on these items.  I'll be linking up with Judy Laquidera for the Get it Done Challenge.  If you are up for a challenge, check out her site and join us....Til next time, happy stitching!

Not getting it done for the Getting it Done challenge

Well, it's Wednesday and the last Wednesday of the month!  Oh my, this month has gone faster than ever!  I can't believe tomorrow is the end of the month and I haven't gotten everything done that I planned!  I do plan to go home tonight and sew the binding on my quilt and I'm going to try to get another of my little quilts ready to be quilted. I don't know that it will get started tonight but I want to get it ready to go.  I guess I over estimated what I could do for my Get It Done challenge for this month.  I'm not too disappointed though as I did get  one of the things done on my list and I did get a quilt done for my granddaughter that wasn't on the list.  I'm going to think about this and decide what to put on my list for next month.  Of course, I plan on getting these projects done so if they aren't completed this month, I'll put them on the list again for next month.   I've thought about these projects and dreamed about them but that didn't get them done!  I'll just have to put more effort into getting these done next month.  Hmm, I'll be thinking about my list today and deciding what to do.

I cut out some more hearts for pillows last night when I got home from tatting.  I'll try to get those done tonight or tomorrow.  I'll show you those later tonight.  Well, got to get busy now and I'll post a few pics of the pillows and another little thing I've been doing too.  What are you working on today?

Until next time, I hope you get some stitching in. Enjoy your day.

A quilt top ready for quilting, a block and a Get It Done finish!

Here's #1 quilt top all together ready for quilting. I'm using this border fabric for two of the D4P's I'm making.  These are for my two granddaughters.  They are not sisters, they are cousins.  My oldest granddaughter thinks it's cool to have stuff just like her smaller cousin so this one is one of  her birthday gifts. I plan on making a doll quilt to match and a pillowcase too.  I've got to hurry up and finish this one. Her birthday is the 11th!

Here's a close-up of the cute border fabric....She like the peace signs and flowers.  I hope she likes it.

Here's the block I made for a future BOM for my guild. This is called the Wonky 5-Sides Log Cabin Block and is from the Craftsy website.  It was fun to do.

Last but not least, here's a pic of my tablerunner I finished.  It is one of my 4 Get It Done Projects for this month.  Yeah!  1 down and three to go...This was fun to make and fun to quilt too.  I got this off the Missouri Star Quilt Company website. Jenny has a tutorial over there on Youtube or her site and you can get it from her there.

Here's a close-up of my star...I wish I had put some interfacing on it so it wasn't so transparent but oh well, it is what is is...

Now, I'm off to put that quilt top on the machine to quilt it.  Til next time, happy quilting!

Cowgirl block, D4P and D9P quilts-Get It Done Challenge

I worked on a block tonight to send off to the Cowgirl Museum in Fort Worth.  They are asking for blocks to make community service quilts. The blocks will be on display from January 18-March 1st.  Here's a link if you want more info. http://www.cowgirl.net/.  Go to the button that says Off the Wall: Maverick Blocks and you can get a submission form and make a block. You get a half price ticket to the museum for your efforts.  I have never been to the museum and plan on making a field trip to see it...

Here's some of the blocks I started out with for the D9P QAL. I used scrap 5" squares but red squares in each 9 patch.

Here's what I have so far.  5 X 7 layout.  I'm going to make more blocks and add a little bit to this one. Then I'll make more blocks with black centers and do another one.

I finished sewing up my D4P tonight and the top is complete except for the white border and the final border. I will get the fabric for the final border tomorrow and hopefully this top will be complete by Saturday and I can start quilting.  A birthday is coming quickly!

Ok, I'm doing the Get It Done Challenge starting tomorrow. I'm picking 4 items to complete for the month.    Here are my four projects I've decided on...

                                            1. Bind my Thimbleberries Garden quilt
                                            2. Quilt and bind the Christmas Star Tablerunner
                                            3. Quilt and bind the Brown Bow Tie Quilt
                                            4. Quilt and bind the Red Scrap  Quilt

Now, I'm going to link up for this challenge. If you are interested in this challenge click on the green button on the sidebar and it will take you to Judy L.'s blog to read more about it. Til next time, happy quilting!

Get It Done and working on my D9P and D4P

Last night, I worked on my disappearing 4 patch quilt. I have all the rows together except for the last one.  I sewed them together wrong and figured it out when I went to sew it together.  I had to unsew this last row and will resew it together tonight and  finish up the quilt top.  It went together very well and I am really pleased with it so far.  I will put a white on white border around it to frame it then the final border.  I haven't bought the final border fabric yet.  I know what I want but needed to do some measuring first to figure out how much fabric I needed.  I'll probably do that tonight and get the fabric tomorrow if I can find it.  I was planning on using stash fabric but this one is for my granddaughter and it needs to be a certain fabric that I don't have...I'll take a pic tonight and show you my progress on it.

I also sewed together all the D9P blocks I had ready and I now have 8 rows of it done.  I think it's looking good for a scrap quilt but is turning out darker than I thought it would.  I took a picture of it laid out on the floor but can't upload it until tonight.  I want to add a few more rows to this one before I call this one finished.  I don't plan on this being a big quilt, just lap size. I want to make some of these for the local nursing home.  I have enough fabric to make a few so this first one was an experiment to see if I liked the pattern. I had made the D9P before but not this setting.  I'm definitely making more of these...they are fun and quick and use up fabric that's been laying around far too long.

I follow Susan at Desert Sky Quilting and she's doing a Get It Done Challenge this year. She lists 4 projects a month to work on. I like that number.  I always work better with a challenge too.  I have alot of tops that need finishing and alot of projects to work on so I'm going to be doing this challenge this year.  I think this challenge actually started over at Judy Laquidara's blog  called Patchwork Times and I'll link up with hers too. Now, to decide what 4 things I want to work on for the February challenge...I'll think about that and list those tonight or tomorrow.
