Using my Go cutter and finishing a Rainbow Scrap monthly challenge.

I came home Friday and started cutting 5" squares with my new Go 5" die.  I got it last week as I thought it would help get some scraps under control.  Well, I was right.  I got a whole box of scraps cut in less than 2 hours. I've had these scraps for a few years and I've been cutting 5" squares a little at a time.  I finally broke down and bought the die and got the whole thing cut.  My stack of 5" squares ended up being 11" worth of fabric. I can't tell you how many there are but it is alot.  I cut the 6" squares too but didn't have a die for them.  It took about 30 minutes to cut the small stack of 6" squares and less than an hour and a half to cut the big stack of 5" squares.  I know it was definitely a time saver and I just love my Go...
I planned on sewing all night and cutting more but the family decided otherwise.  We went to dinner and it was too late to play when I got back home.   I was going to sew on Saturday and more family things were going on too....I was finally able to sew a little on Saturday night and sewed up this little  tree placemat. It was fun to make and I guess I'm just stuck on trees lately.  I guess I'm ready for spring but these look like Christmas trees to me.  I used green scraps for these and quilted this little mat yesterday and finished binding it tonight.   I'm still doing the Rainbow scrap challenge and this was one of the things I wanted to make for the month.  I am going to make a placemat every month. I'm not sure if I'll do it with a holiday theme, it's just whatever strikes my fancy at the time....Anyway, here's the little placemat all finished...I made this with strings or strips and just drew a tree shape and made the blocks according to the tree size.  Like I said, I'm kinda stuck on trees right now.

I also made two maple leaf blocks yesterday afternoon. These will be given to my small quilt group for our church quilt.  Everyone in my group is making a square or two in autumn colors.  The squares will be put together and a quilt made for the church we meet at.  This is one of the things we do just to say thank you to the church for letting us hold our meetings there.   They sell chances on the quilt to their members and one of the church members wins the quilt.  It's a win, win situation. We enjoy doing it and the church likes it too...

Tomorrow is Tatting Tuesday and we are decorating shuttles.  How fun will that be?!  Til next time, happy sewing! Linda

I've been a very bad girl....

Ok, I couldn't help it...it's not my fault!  My arm was twisted!  Really!  Ok, I broke down and bought all the other dies I wanted. I just had to....I got the 5" square, I'll be cutting out some lovely charm squares this afternoon.  I got the circle die. I had to have that one to make the cute pillows I saw in the blog hop, right?   I went ahead and ordered the 7" Drunkard's Path die, it was on sale and it came with a free magazine.  I'm a sucker for sales and free stuff too. I know I said I would wait to buy this one but I changed my mind.   I ordered the ruler I wanted too a few days ago, it was on sale too.  All the dies I bought were on sale so I saved some money, oh and I bought some glue too.  Glue, you ask???? Yes, it's for a pattern I got from Inch Worm Quilts. Barb from Bejeweled quilts made this little round tablerunner with her Tumbler die. I ordered the pattern and some fabric from JJ at Inch Worm Quilts (Barb's sister) and it came yesterday.  Barb used glue to hold the ruffle together around the tablerunner.  I got home too late last night to play  but I did read through the pattern....Now, I have several things I want to cut out this afternoon so I can start playing.  I'll try to post some pics later tonight or tomorrow of some of the things I cut out or made.  I gotta go now, I 've got some serious cutting to do. Til next time, happy sewing!

Exciting News: GO! Ahead and Show Some Love Blog Hop

Coming in February!!!! Save the dates and visit these fun blogs.  It's the next Accuquilt blog hop, and the theme is:  Go! Ahead and Show Some Love Blog Hop, and there are going to be lots of projects, tutorials, and maybe some giveaways, too! Since it's being done in the sweetest month or I call it the love month, we will all be focusing on red and white. Yes, more red is coming up along with hearts and valentines and of course, chocolate! Yum, yum!
If you'd like to know who will be posting in our hop, click on the graphic in the right-hand sidebar, and you'll be able to see SewCalGal's post and the list of bloggers.  Jacque (Lilypad Quilting) created the cute artwork for this blog hop. Thanks, Jacque, this is so cute!!!!
Also, thanks to Paulette (Sweet P Quilting) for twisting our arms, I mean coordinating this upcoming blog hop...
I love using my tools, my friends know that I'm a gadget girl and one of my favorite tools is my AccuQuilt Go.  I don't use it to it's full advantage but that's what this is all about, learning, sharing and having fun!   I'm very lucky, my day to show what I've got going on is Valentine's Day, February 14th!  I do have to share the day with Connie (Quilting by the River), but I don't mind sharing!!!!  So, click on the red badge on the side and see who else is playing and mark your calenders to visit each one of us on our special days.

Don't forget to come join the fun in our upcoming GO! Ahead and Show Some Love Blog Hop! I think you'll have fun and find some ideas to create some really sweet projects too.

Saturday sewing, gardening and the Go Cutter....

I got up this morning and laid out the blocks on my design wall for that 2008 BOM I told you about in my last post.  I love this quilt!!! I had to unsew some things because, guess what??? I didn't read the directions. I just went by the pictures mostly and I should not have done that with this quilt.  I had to unsew two blocks as the directions said not to sew them together as they would be used for outside blocks...blah, blah, blah. The picture showed what the block would look like if it was a complete block.  Ok, I'll give her that one.  Anyway, I wasted a little time by not reading the directions but everything is as it should be now. The quilt is on my design wall and I have been working on putting the rows together today.  I have stopped a few times for various reasons.  I cleaned house a little and my MIL  came over today and we planted two rows of potatoes.  I also put a rosemary plant and a miniature rose bush into the ground that my sweet husband gave me for Valentine's Day.  I'm not sure the rosemary plant will make it.  It was pretty dry. I got it before Christmas and wanted to plant it but then the snow came and I didn't want to plant until warmer weather.  Today is a beautiful, sunny day of 72 degrees. You heard me right, 72 degrees!  Last week we had to have our coats and scarves, this week is flip flops and shorts.  You've heard about the Texas weather, right?  It's true....Anyway, my potatoes are in the ground, next comes squash, okra, tomatoes  and radishes. I have to check and see when it's ok to plant these first.  My soil is ready but I have to wait until it's time.  I'll show you my garden when it gets pretty. Ok, everything is up to date now and  I can go back to sewing.  I already did something Bonnie said not to do.  She said don't spend too much time in front of the computer.  If you stay too long at the computer, you are not at the sewing machine....she's right but I have to document everything too.  I haven't even had time to read blogs this week so please forgive me.  I'll play catch up tomorrow and work on my CW too...

BTW, I broke down yesterday and bought me an Accuquilt Go Cutter.  I bought the Hexagon templates too. I watched the DVD that comes with it.  That was why I didn't go to Sit and Sew last night.  I sat down and watched the DVD then I didn't want to get up from my chair.  I haven't even played with the Go yet but next week will be better for me.  I have no meetings next week except for tatting and Weight Watchers.  I'll be sewing every night!!!  So, have a great weekend and go sew!
