Ta Da...My UFO is no longer a UFO

Ok, here it is...I can no longer call it a UFO as it is finished!!! Yeah, Woo Hoo, Hooray....doing the happy dance! I quilted on this forever and am very happy with the finish. I had just enough green for the binding and sewed that on last night. I just put the last stitches in the binding (hand stitching the binding down) and it will go on the wall in my living room this weekend. I have to show it off and brag a little first! I love this and am really so pleased with this finish! Can you imagine? This UFO has been laying around for about 10 years! It was my oldest UFO and I am so glad it is no longer a big bad UFO. I feel so good about this one. I'm looking forward to alot more finishes this month and this year! I'm ready to start on my next one but have to get some sleep tonight. I was so wound up last night from quilting it, I didn't sleep at all. Ok, here it is...

I've already updated my UFO list on the side and I can happily put completed on this UFO! I want to do this to all of the 10 UFO's on my list! How about you? Are you up for the challenge? Why don't you join us? Come on, you know you want to.

Til next time....

My UFO Flimsy - Nostalgic Garden

Ok, I got to sew a little this weekend and I now have a flimsy of my UFO....Yeah!!!!

You want to hear something funny? I went to a quilt show and took some pictures. I showed the pictures to my husband and the last one of these pictures was not a finished quilt, it was my UFO flimsy. My husband said...look at that, that's awful, I hate the colors. That's just ugly. I said oh yeah? Well, thanks alot. He said, why, what are you saying? That's your quilt? You should have seen him. He didn't know what to say or do since he'd already had said so much. Oh well, I like it alot and guess what?
I plan on quilting it and hanging it on my living room wall so he has to look at it all the time!! Paybacks, right?

Here's a picture of Nostalgic Garden:

Block 12 of my UFO

Woo hoo, I have finished block 12 of my UFO and I can now start putting this quilt together....Oh boy, I am so ready. I will be sewing tomorrow as fast as I can. Here's block 12. Didn't this one turn out pretty? I'll show you pictures of the quilt top when I have it together. 10 years in the making...why didn't we have challenges like this back then? Maybe I would have been motivated to finish it then. Oh well, it's getting done now and that's the important thing, right?

I went to my small group meeting tonight. Do you remember that I showed you my house blocks that I had done for my exchange? Well, we traded them tonight and I got other house blocks. Here they are, aren't they pretty? This quilt is so much fun. I am really enjoying this exchange.

You know you always have one over-achiever in the group, right? She already has her blocks done up for the next 3 or 4 months. She gave us "samples" to show us what the blocks should look like. Of course, she is heading up the exchange so maybe she should be the over-achiever in the group....Love ya Sharon, thanks for doing the exchange. Anyway, these blocks are so cute. I'm excited about these little blocks.

Nostalgic Garden

Ok, I'm still working on my UFO #4- Nostalgic Garden. On Saturday, I went to pick up my BOM for January and they had a sale on fabric. I decided to get some extra fabric to make pillowcases to go along with my quilt... I try to make pillowcases for each quilt I make but that doesn't always happen. This one will be my quilt and it will go on my new bed. I bought a sleigh bed and I'm looking at mattresses now. We are going down from King Size to Queen Size. I didn't realize how much difference in size there was until we started trying out mattresses. Quite a difference...I want more room in my bedroom so this is one way to do it. It's alot cheaper than reconstruction on the house.
Here's my block 10 of the Marti Michell BOM I'm working on and my pillowcases.

Anyway, I went home, made the pillowcases and made my BOM for next month for this group. I sat down to eat lunch and afterwards worked on my block 8. I made the mistake of turning on the TV and I got interested in a movie so I continued working on my embroidery blocks. I finished block 8. I had to stop for awhile and make a dessert to take over to my son's house. We were going to watch the Cowboys game and have supper at their house. So I made a quick dessert...Rice Crispy Squares. I haven't made these in years and had forgotten how messy they can be. I had to laugh at myself cuz I had all these rice crispies on my hands and couldn't get them off. (Yes, I put butter on my hands but that didn't work too good for me.) So, I just decided to eat it off. I had forgotten how good these were! My DH came in and caught me doing this. He laughed at me and told me I had some on my nose. I did get it finally made and cut up. I wasn't sure if this was a good enough dessert to take over until I went over there. It was a big hit with my grands and son and DIL. I brought home an empty dish. After we put the kids to bed, I was able to work on block 9. I got it almost all done while there. Yeah, the Cowboys won too!

Sunday, I finished block 9 and started on block 10. I'm so happy to be finishing this project and my blocks look exactly like I want them. I'm on schedule with my blocks so far. Monday night, I finished block 10 and started block 11. I called my sister and told her I was working on block 11 and asked her how far along she was. Can you believe that she called me a dirty name? She said she had just finished block 1. I didn't remember that she only collected the blocks along the way and had never done any of the blocks. She said it might be Christmas before we had lunch to celebrate her finish... We'll see.

Here's blocks 8, 9 and 10...only 2 more and I can start putting together.

Til next time....

Working on my challenge, some pics and some sweet memories

Ok, I got up this morning excited to see which project it would be...It turned out to be number 4 which is Nostalgic Garden on my list. This is going to be a good challenge for me. I pulled out the blocks and have 6 blocks completed and 6 to go. As I was going through the box and patterns I remembered why I had never finished this one. This is a lovely quilt but the embroidery work is why I stopped working on this one. Not because I can't embroider, it's just so SLOW for me. I was going to take these blocks and work on them on my breaks or at lunch...The job I have now, we don't get breaks. We barely get lunch. I will be sitting in front of the TV doing the embroidery work on these. Last year, I did take an embroidery class so this shouldn't be so bad for me now.... Or, here's an idea. Jane, can I send this to you to do the embroidery and I'll do some sewing for you???? Nah, I'm just kidding but you are so quick at this, I really thought about this! This little quilt has a lot of embroidery and embellishing and I was never used to that. Now, maybe I have a little more patience for this. This little quilt has brought back some sweet memories. I have been coloring the blocks and thinking about these...My older sister, Judy, and I were doing this quilt together. It was a BOM from a now, non-existent quilt store in McKinney. Judy would drive to my house, then we would drive to our other sister's house (Peggy) and pick her up and then all three of us would go to the quilt store. Peg is not a quilter and will never be. She has other talents though, so don't feel too badly for her! She can paint! Anyway, the three of us would watch the monthly demo, brouse the quilt store, then go have lunch and spend time together. We did this every month except the last three months. We picked up our last three blocks early because the quilt shop was closing. I had forgotten about that until now...My sisters and I are not as close as we should be now. Maybe this quilt was really meant to help us change that this year. Maybe it was meant for me to work on and remind me to get back in touch with these two wonderful women. I did not see either sister this year at Christmas. We keep in touch by way of e-mails and phone calls but it's not really the same thing, is it? I was coloring the blocks and picked up the phone and called Judy this morning. We talked about the quilt and she said she still had the blocks and would dig them out. I told her I was participating in this challenge and I planned on finishing this quilt this month. I challenged her to work on her blocks too. She said she would try. I told her we would get together and I'd show her mine and help her with hers....I hung up from her and called Peggy. I told her about the quilt and told her the three of us would get together and celebrate when I finished my quilt. And, when Judy finished hers, we would get together again and see each other. She was excited and so was I. Not bad, for one day, huh? Making plans to be with family and finishing some unfinished quilts too. I'm looking forward to finishing this up now and just thought I would share my inspiration with all of you....Now, here's some pics. I have done all the coloring on these blocks now, to do the embroidery. Ok, it's time to stick in a movie....til next time...

Ok, here's the small house blocks I made. These are 4 1/2" and they are for my March BOM...Yes, I'm ahead, for once!!!

Here's the finished blocks I have for this project. Now, I have to color and finish 6 more and do the embroidery on them.

January Challenge is up!

Ok, girls...I just checked and the January challenge has been posted. It is #4. Number 4 on my list is...Nostalgia Garden. Ok, I can live with that. I'm off and running...Nostalgia Garden is a UFO I have had for about...should I say it? 10 years? Just thinking about it though, I thinks it's been longer than that. Isn't that awful? I was so excited about this quilt at first and I think I got 7 of the blocks done and I just stopped. Oh well, now it will be finished like it deserves. I'll take pics and post along the way...See ya later.
