Tatting Tuesday

Last night was the Tuesday Tatting Meeting.  It's so much fun to be with these wonderful women.  I think there are about 20 of us now.  All different ages....young and not as young...we had cake last night too.  Ummm, it was wonderful!  Sweet Nancy made me a white cake with cherry icing.  OMG, it was so good.  I am a weight watcher and I saved all my points for this piece of cake and believe me, it was worth all of them plus!  Nancy likes to bake but her husband doesn't eat alot of sweets so she brings them and shares with us.  Great cook and a wonderful tatter too.  We chatted and tatted and had a great time.  My friend, Lucille made a beautiful card with tatting on it too and everyone signed it.  Thank you, Lucille.  It is so nice to be with ladies that like what you do, I am so thankful I have such wonderful, caring friends.

Tonight, I have to get busy and work on a block for a Christmas swap...My friend, Sandra and I are working on it together and I'm behind on my part. I have to hurry up and do it because we're meeting on Friday to work on it.
I'll take pictures of my card and the block later tonight and share some pics with you. til next time, happy sewing....

I missed Tatting Tuesday for my Quilt Guild

I hate it when I have to choose between things I love to do...tonight I had to miss tatting in order to go to my Quilt Guild meeting. Sometimes I do both but I didn't feel like hurrying tonight. Tatting is in Richardson and my guild meeting is in Mesquite. They are about 20 miles apart. I could have gone to tatting for awhile then to my quilt meeting but I feel so rushed when I do this and don't get quality time at either function. I have not been going to the Quilt meetings but I was shamed into going again. I went to TAQG Rally day (that's Texas Association of Quilt Guilds for all you out of staters) and saw all my buddies from quilting there. I had so many friends walk up to me and tell me they missed me and wanted me to come back that I just had to go...I went and took the quilt to my friend that I finished and she loved it...it had been sitting at her house for 10 years, so she was pleased to get it back to bind and give to her son....Once at the guild meeting, I had a great time and we did 4 mini lessons on different ways to do applique. I've done all of them but I did learn a few tricks I didn't know too. I will do some quick applique and share the little tricks I learned with ya'll maybe this weekend. I sure missed my friends and I'm really glad I went tonight. I'm going to have to figure out how to juggle my time better...Hmmm, I wonder if I can take off a little early from work on Tuesday and then later go to quilting....something to think about. gotta go for now, til next time...

Tatting Tuesday

I went to tatting last night and had a great time. I FINALLY learned how to do the SCMR (Self Closing Mock Ring). I didn't think I would ever get it but the light bulb went off...I did 3 little crosses and I was able to close the ring like it should be. YOO HOO.
I have been really disgusted with myself the last couple of weeks because I wasn't able to do this technique and then last night at the meeting, Kathy looked at what I was trying to do and she told me what I was doing wrong. Then it just all came together...I felt really dumb but now I feel a whole lot better. I'm going to try that pattern again that I could not do three weeks ago and see if I can do it now. I'll take pictures later. I don't know how something so trivial can undermine our confidence but it sure does. Ok, I'll let you know later what I do and I'll also post some pics I took last night of all our tatted Easter eggs. They were really cute. Til next time....

Tatting Tuesday and miscellaneous

Tuesday night we worked on some little bluebonnet pins and we practiced the Self closing mock ring. Very interesting technigue, not the easiest thing to do but with practice, it will get easier, I hope. I had to start over a few times, I couldn't get my loop to close. I was using two colors of thread and I kept getting too far away from my knot. It would not allow me to close the ring. I'm going to try a simple pattern with it and see if I can do it. I'll update you later in the week.

This tatting group is so much fun. We laughed and cut up all night. We even got some things done while having a good time.

This group of ladies is a very talented group. We have ladies that do all kinds of crafts. One of these lovely ladies, Mary Jo, is a knitter and she showed me how to cast on the Moebius scarf. I'm working on this during my lunch breaks this week. I've wanted to make one of these for a long time now so when it's finished I can scratch this off my list of things to do in my lifetime...(I have a very simple bucket list! )

Last night was my last official employee meeting at the quilt shop. I will miss working there but I will not miss having more time to dedicate to my projects and my off time. I will still be teaching a few classes now and again but no more working on the weekends! Woo hoo, I get to sleep late on Saturdays again. This Saturday is my last day at the shop. It feels kind of strange to be leaving but I know it's going to be better for me. I'll get to spend some more time with my quilt buddies and my grandkids on the weekends.

Tonight is our small group quilt meeting. I haven't been home one night this week and I haven't sewed all week. It will be nice to get back to my sewing machine and make sure it still works. til next time.....

Quilt Meeting and a Little Motif

I went to my monthly small quilt group meeting tonight. We didn't have any demonstration, we just talked and ate. One of the ladies made cupcakes and someone else made decorated sugar cookies. Yes, we are still in the Valentine mood as these were pink cupcakes and decorated heart cookies. We had hot tea too. We had lots of show and tell and just relaxed and had fun. While I was there I made this little motif from Rozella Linden's Easy Tatting Book....

I know it's not a heart but I had some left over thread and just needed a small motif to work on and not think about. Just the right thing. This is the small rosette.Til next time....

Tatting Tuesday

Last night was tatting at the Senior Center. It was alot of fun, as usual.

It was Lucille's birthday, Happy Birthday, sweet lady....I am so glad we became friends. You are a sweet, lovely lady and I enjoy seeing you each week.

I don't know who brought the cake but it was good.

We are working on our state fair projects. I have decided on hearts. I am making heart motifs in all sizes. I finished one last night and I will post a picture later today. It was from the book, Tatting by Cathy Bryant and I used Lizbeth Size 20 thread. The color was Red Burst #147 and I love the color and thread. This thread was very easy to work with and tatted up very nicely.

Onto the next one....

I also learned how to cast on the Moebius scarf. I got it cast on and was knitting around and my needle came apart. I'm waiting to get some Addi Turbo needles to do this. I don't want my needles to come apart after I have knitted a long while. This pattern is not easy to pick up your stitches on....I'm looking for a 47" inch circular needle and they are not easy to find...Hopefully, I can find one soon. I'm going to search on the internet today for them. We'll see.

More posting later....

Valentine Cards, Birthday cards and a pig

Okay, I told you earlier that on Tuesday, we did tatting as well as making cards. Here are some of the cards I made for Valentine's Day....and I made a birthday card for my granddaughter too. I went to Michael's Friday evening and bought a piggy bank and I decorated it too for her. This was so much fun and my DIL and granddaughter loved it. I'm going to do this or things like this more. It is so much fun to add something extra to a gift to make it your own. That's what being a crafter is all about anyway, right? Anyone can go out and buy a gift and a card but when you make something, it's from the heart...

Here's the pig...

Tatting Tuesday or the Mavs?

Well, yesterday was Tatting Tuesday as I call it and I was all ready to go meet with the girls after work for some fellowship and friendly banter. My husband called me and asked me if I wanted to go to the Mavericks game. He had been given tickets if we could use them. Well, that was a hard call for me but I chose the Mavs. I am a big Mavs fan and couldn't pass up free tickets. My husband works nights and he could not go with me. I called my son and we had a great time watching the Mavs win over the Clippers...It was a great game. The Mavs were behind the whole game and pulled out the win in the last 3 minutes of the game. It was great! Go Mavs! Tatting Tuesday was pre-empted til next week. Til next time......

Tatting Tuesday

Last night I went to the Richardson Senior Center for my tatting group. Lots of fun and fellowship with some wonderful ladies. I think I'm picking it back up again but it's a slow process for me. One of the lovely ladies named Lucille showed me (or should I say tried to show me) how to do the split ring...That is hard!!! I did do it but I can honestly say I have not mastered it, YET... I'm going to watch the video and work on it some over the holidays. I do like the looks of the split ring. Lucille showed me a very pretty bookmark she had made using the stitch and a beaded cross on the end. Too cute. Maurie showed me a tatting book she bought off Amazon and I fell in love with the book. I went home and had to buy it. I ordered it from Amazon last night and can't wait to get it....The doctors are letting us off early today and I'm going to go home and start some of my cooking. Maybe I'll get to work on some of my tatting or quilting today too. Until next time....

Tatting at the Richardson Senior Center

Last week I did go to a meeting on Tuesday night at the Senior Recreation Center. No, I'm not a senior yet, that's just where they hold the meetings. I was very impressed with the center. I went there for a tatting group. I used to tat years ago and tried to pick it up again and couldn't remember how to do it. It's one of those things, if you don't use it you lose it....Anyway, I went and met with a few other ladies (there were 8 of us in all) and they got me back on the road to Tatting. I worked on it a little this week while I was feeling sickly. I watched a little TV and did this at the same time. It's like riding a bicycle. You pick it up pretty quickly once you can remember how it's done. The ladies meet every week but it's not a guild. It's just a group of ladies that want to keep the art of tatting alive for the next generation. Two ladies started this little group in April of this year and have added to the group and shown other women how to tat. The main two ladies know how to tat, one is a Certified Tatter and the other is not certified but sure knows her stuff...They meet and teach tatting to anyone that is interested, no charge. Just show up and learn...I had a great time and plan on going back and visiting with this little group of women again.
The Recreation Center is wonderful. On Tuesday night, they had a quilting group there and a square dance group... The quilting group is a beginner group and they have a good group of ladies that meets there too. They meet on Mondays and Tuesdays. Very small charge to have quilting classes. There were about 90 people dancing Tuesday night when I was there. I didn't know what kind of dancing it was but it was considered Square Dancing....It wasn't like with the flouncy dresses or quick sashaying but it was definitly square dancing and it wasn't just seniors either. It was all ages and it was so fun to watch. I had a great time watching everybody else have a good time. I'm definitely going back to watch!
