Amy's BOM blocks

Ok, I got busy today and did my blocks for Amy's BOM....all three of them.
Block #1 is called Scrap Happy. Amy asked if anyone knew a more traditional name for this block and I tried looking for it. I found a block similar to it in Maggie Malone's 5500 block book. It's called the Royal Star and it's pretty close.

Block #2 - Double Friendship Star

Block #3-Arizona Cactus
This was not my favorite block...the middle portion was not very accurate. I suggest you make the blue 5 1/2" rectangles longer than 5 1/2". Maybe 6", then trim back as needed. My middle block was a little small.I also suggest you take smaller seams that 1/4" for the middle part...I really had to fudge on this one but it will be ok...

I just looked at Nancy's blog (Patchwork Penguin) and she picked the UFO for the month. It is UFO #2, which for me is Dear Blanche. I have 10 blocks left to do on this quilt so I better get busy this month. til next time.....

I Love to Fly-Donation quilt for Quilts for Kids!

Hey guys, here's my sweet donation quilt finished. I'm calling this one I Love to Fly. This is one that will go to Quilts for Kids along with the other one I made, Warm Fuzzies. If you want to do a donation quilt for the Quilts for Kids program, please click here (or the button on the right) and request a kit. On their website, click on "How to Help" and then, request a kit. The kit comes with everything you need except batting and binding. They get it to you quickly too. This is a very worthy cause. Why don't you think about it...

Here's I Love to Fly:

Tractor and Train quilts

I made this quilt for my grandson, Brandon, Christmas 2007. Another blogger wanted to make a John Deer tractor quilt and was looking for suggestions. I discovered that I had never taken a picture of it so this past week, when I was over visiting, he let me take a picture. So, here's his tractor quilt...This is his first big boy quilt...

Back of quilt:

I also took this picture. I don't remember when I made this one. I think it was Christmas 2006. (I always date my quilts when I sign them but I didn't look when I took this picture.) I made this for Brandon too. He liked trains, so I made this one. At the time, train fabric was hard to find...

A fun gift for a friend, 4 house blocks and a stitchery

Here's a gift I made for my friend, Carol. Her birthday was last Friday but she took some time off and will be back at work tomorrow so I want to surprise her with this little girl. She hates to celebrate her birthday but I think this will be ok...I copied this from Material Mary's blog but I added a few extras to mine. Thanks, Mary for the inspiration. Carol is the big 6-0!! Happy Birthday, Carol.

Here's 4 little house blocks for my exchange. These are 4 1/2" and we will swap these. We are half way there on this little quilt. You'll see the finished project soon!

Here's the little stitchery I've been working on. I have to press it and mount it. I'm going to put it in a frame and put some tatting around it. I'll show you the finished one in a few days. I just wanted to share it. I really like this one. I got this from Shell's blog, the Raspberry Rabbit...see the button on the right, Sentimental Journey. She's having free stitcheries all year. You can make this into a little quilt or do whatever you want to with it.

Jelly Roll Quilt Along

As if I needed one more thing to add to the list, right? But, this sounds like fun and I have some Jelly rolls just sitting around so...I have signed up to do 2 blocks a month (what's another few blocks?). Every other Monday, a new designer(a guest blogger) will be adding her block to the mix. Click here to read about it or click on the Jelly Roll button the side of my blog page. I'm ready. It starts March 1st so you are not too late to join. Come have some fun along with me...Pull out those Jelly Rolls just sitting around or use some stash. It's a 12 block quilt and you are not committed all year. Easy 12 1/2" blocks, what do you say?

Quiz on About.com Quilting

I get a weekly email from About.com: Quilting. There was a fun link on there about quilt blocks...go check them out.

Know your blocks? Try this quiz! NOTE: My score was 23/30...76%. I thought I knew more than that but there were a few blocks on here I've never seen.

Some eye candy

Ok, I haven't posted in a few days and a friend of mine told me about it. Gee, I gotta sew sometime, huh? I'm making some blocks but not through with them yet and I'm ready to quilt the quilt but haven't had a chance. I thought I would share some pics from last week when I went to my small group meeting. Here's some things my friends have been working on. I hope you enjoy seeing these.
