I got up later, fixed breakfast for my crew and pulled out UFO 8. I looked on the paperwork and this was a UFO from 2002! It's been sitting in the box that long. I worked on this in a class I took back then and I worked on it one other time that I remember. I pulled it out this morning, finished the last 3 blocks and started putting it together. I remember this one not fitting together properly and that's what stopped me from finishing this. I decided I was going to finish this one no matter what!
I put the blocks up on the design wall and played with them for awhile. I started sewing them togethter and it went pretty quickly. I had to ooch and scooch here and there but all in all, it went ok. Here's how it went together to begin with...
After I sewed all of the rows together, I had to trim off the points and add triangles to the middles (like setting triangles).
Once, everything was trimmed up, I added small borders....
So, this is February 1st, right? This is UFO 8 and it's finished!!! Well, it's finished for now, until I get around to quilting it! After 9 years of just sitting in a box, I think it turned out pretty well. I'm not crazy about the borders but I don't have enough fabric for anything else...I have fabric for backing it and binding it but no extra. So, this one is staying like this and I'm pleased with it. I have to say, this was the worst or poorest written pattern I have ever worked on and I'm glad it's finished. I love the fabric and that's why I saved this UFO.. The name of the pattern was Hexagon Magic but I'm going to name this one Almost Too Much Trouble.
I hope you are safe and warm and you get to sew or be with your family during this icy weather....Til next time,

That looks so neat! Awesome pattern, you did a great job :)
very pretty...love the colors... try and stay warm.
Well done you. It looks lovely, so the perseverence was worth it. Now you can have the rest of the month off, lol.
WhoooHooo! Congratulations!
what a wonderful pattern! you did a great job and the fabrics are beautiful :) I've finished up 2 quilt tops myslef - gotta love being stranded inside LOL!
That's beautiful! And I think the borders are just fine! Now get it quilted before it sits around another nine years! LOL
The quilt turned out beautiful... what a fascinating pattern... beautiful colors. Sorry the pattern was so poorly written... I've run into one of those and have about sworn off buying another pattern.
Congratulations on finishing UFO #8!
Your Almost Too Much Trouble looks great. I love the colors!
What a great quilt - fabulous pattern!
Pretty!
Holy cow, that looks like a lot of work! I tend to get jaded after looking at all the "quick and easy" "super simple" "in-a-day" quilts. It's refreshing to see somethat that took some time and concentration.
But 8 years? tsk, tsk. LOL! Okay, I understand completely, really I do - a poorly written pattern can really throw you off your stride!
Wow, that went quick. It would be nice if all UFO's went that fast! Perhaps we all wouldn't have so many!
What a great quilt!! Do you remember the name of the pattern?
Woohoo and good for you! It's a lovely quilt, even if it was a pain in the patootie!
Oh I almost wish I had not sworn off hexgons. That is truly deserving as a place other than the UFO pile.
It turned out great and I love the name!
I am a firm believer in the fudge factor! I am making a quilt that is to be loved by the recipient and not for a judge at a quilt show, if I have a little glitch, so be it. It's not a matter of life and death. It took me a long time to get to that point but I'm happier. And I still rip out the biggies!
I really like the Hawaiian floral print with the orchids and plumeria. I am intriqued by this pattern, and would love to know how you did it.
