Garland Quilt Guild 10th Year Anniversary Celebration

Tuesday night was my quilt guild's 10th anniversary as a guild.  It was a great guild meeting.  We are on our 6th President now and the previous 5 Presidents were thanked for their part in our guild.  Here are some pictures of the happenings Tuesday night with some show and tell too.  I can post these as I am the historian for our guild and I take all the pictures!  You can also follow us on Facebook, we are the Garland Quilt Guild.  Here's a link to our Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Garland-Quilt-Guild/112004142200679

This is a plaque that was given to each of the past presidents.

There were four President's Challenge Quilts made to celebrate the 10 years. This one won Best of the 4.

1st Place

2nd Place - it has pictures of some of our group's happenings.

3rd Place-this little quilt was a result of the first workshop that was ever done by the guild.

Founder's Award Winners.  The middle lady, Barbara,  is the founder of our guild. She got the guild started 10 years ago.

This woman won the Founders Award but her husband won an award too. He has helped the guild with so many things over the years. He has been an inspiration to all of us.

Here are 4 of our 5 past Presidents.  The 5th one was ill and wasn't able to come.

Now for some great show and tell from our members.

We have some truly talented and lovely women and men in our guild and I'm so happy to be a part of this great group.  If you aren't a member of a guild, you can be missing out on friendships and lots of good times too.  Go join a guild and learn more and get inspired too.  Take time to quilt and be an inspiration to others.

Ellie Ann's Treasures Charm Quilt

Last Monday and Tuesday when it was bad weather and I was at home, I was able to start working on this little lap quilt.  I saw this on Pinterest. I liked it and decided to make it with the two charm packs and yardage for the border that I had bought a few weeks ago. This was one of Missouri Star's Daily Deals that I couldn't pass up but I didn't have any pattern in mind when I bought it.  When I saw the pattern I knew that's what I wanted to make with it.  The pattern on Pinterest was called  Tumbling Charms Quilt and it is a free pattern from Farm Fresh Fabrics.

Here's a link to the pattern:

I've also seen a tutorial on this quilt or a version that's really close to being this same quilt on the Missouri Star Quilt Company. Here's a link on YouTube for the video.
They call it the Falling Charms quilt on their site..This is a fun and easy quilt to make.  I used 2 charm packs called Ellie Ann's Treasures from Eleanor Burns for the charms and the border fabric was in her line of fabric too.  I used some white muslin out of my sister's stash for the background.  This was a good project just to sit and sew and not a lot of  thinking. I did think about my sister while I was sewing this and I know she would have liked this pattern...Now, I just have to decide how I want to quilt this..  Another bad weather day to sew on!  Til next time, happy stitching.

Joanne Fluke, my favorite author.

Last Wednesday, I went to my first book signing.  This was at the Haggard Library in Plano, Tx. My favorite author, Joanne Fluke was there from California and she was talking about her new book that just came out, Double Fudge Brownie Murder. This is her 18th book in this series and I can't wait for the next one to come out.  She said it would be another year before the next one is out. Oh my!

She was great and she's such a nice person too.  I have read all of her books and I had bought her new book that morning at Barnes and Noble. I didn't know there would be a rep from Barnes and Noble at the library selling her book there.  All of these books are based on  the main character owning a cookie and coffee shop in Minnesota.  They have wonderful recipes in the books. Most of the recipes are cookies but there are some cake recipes and main dish recipes in them too.  Here is a link to her website so you can read more about her...http://www.joannefluke.com/hannah-swensen-series/.  Her books are excellent and I've enjoyed everyone of them....

Here's Joann Fluke

It was a lot of fun to meet her and hear her talk about her books and her life too. Sweet lady. If you get a chance, pick up one of her books and read it.  She had audio books out too. I have gone to the public library in my town too when I couldn't find the book I needed in the series, and they have them too.  On May 10th, on the Hallmark Movies and Mystery channel, her first book is being turned into a movie and it is scheduled to air on that date.
Thanks for stopping by and happy reading and stitching too.
