My sweet sister,Judy, Cutting out the second quilt and a future quilt I want to make

My sister is still in the hospital but doing ok. They have run all kinds of tests on her and determined for sure it was a stroke. Her body fought it off and it did not do any damage to her brain or heart...They are keeping her because they are giving her medications to see which one is best for her. The first one they gave her made her have a very bad migraine. They tried it again and it had the same results....so, now, they are giving her other meds and watching her. Hopefully, she can come home tomorrow and be ok with medications and everything. Thanks for thinking of her and praying for her...

I did come home and cut out the second quilt. I didn't get anything sewn but maybe I can tomorrow. I am using Steam a Seam to do the applique and I ran out so I'll have to get some tomorrow to finish up. No pictures to show yet but maybe tomorrow. I know posts without pictures are boring, right? So....I'm going to post this one-it belongs to a friend of mine. We had a 6 1/2" square exchange (I love these, you make your favorite 6 1/2" block) and this is how she put her quilt together. I want to do mine this way so I had to take pictures...anyway, please enjoy and come back to see me soon.

My sweet sister,Judy

I talked to my sister and she said it was a mini stroke. They are starting her on two different medications and running a few more tests before they release her tomorrow. She said the doctors said she was lucky this time. She acted quick enough and did the right thing by heading to the hospital so quickly. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers for her. til next time...

Dick Jane and Sally Look Quilt and my sweet sister

Here's what I worked on Friday night and finished up Saturday. This little quilt was very easy and fun to make. I made this for my friend, Judy. I'm making another little quilt for her too but will probably be this next week. I'm also finishing up some hand quilting for one of her students. The quilt was started by her grandmother that passed away. It only has one or two more blocks to finish quilting, then some quilting on the border...I'll probably bind it for her too. I gotta get busy. She's doing some quilting for me and I'm doing these for her. Here's the little quilt, I hope you like it. I think it is really cute. She's had this little kit around for a while. I'm glad to bring it to life.

I watched my grandkids last night and didn't get to sew as long as I wanted. I was going to sew again today but got an upsetting phone call from my brother-in-law this morning. He had to take my sister to the hospital with a possible stroke. My husband and I left the house and drove to the hospital to check on her. Luckily, it was not diagnosed as a stroke but they are not sure what exactly is going on with her. They are keeping her overnight for observation and more tests...We are keeping our fingers crossed and sending up prayers that it's nothing serious. I'll try to let you know what's going on...

Weekend sewing, UFO 2 flimsy, Amy's BOM, Jelly Roll Quilt Along

I have had a very busy weekend sewing. I was able to sew yesterday all day and this afternoon after church...
I finished the third block of Amy's April BOM. Pennsylvania Parade is the name of it and it looks better than I remembered. I didn't like this one at first it grew on me. I'm loving all of the blocks Amy has picked out for this. This is going to be a big quilt!!! Here's Pennsylvania Parade:

Now, here's the 4th block for the Jelly Roll Quilt Along:
The block is called Stepping Down:

I finished this cute little snowman too. I've had him for several years. It was a kit I got somewhere and I wanted to have it finished by Christmas but that didn't happen. He's finished now and will be ready for this Christmas. See, he's in the strawberry patch right now wondering what happened to all the snow. I made these cute strawberry pincushions yesterday too. I want to make more and will soon. I'd like to make all kinds of fruit pincushions and I'll be looking out for more fruit. I want to make these and give these to some of my sewing friends for Christmas. These were very easy to make and I got this pattern off of Freebies for Crafters blogspot. You can get there if you click on their linki at the right side of my blog....Great website. I have made several things from this site and I visit it all the time...Check them out.

I made this cute little snippet holder too. It was very easy and quick. I'll give the directions out soon when I decide or find out how easy it is to find the stiff stuff I put in the seams. I don't know what it's called so I'm going to have to make a trip to Home Depot and look around...I'll let you know soon.

Next, I made several of these floating 4 patch blocks. I don't remember how many I made 10 or 13. Some for me and some to exchange...

I made 3 of these blocks. They are called Crazy 8's. I'm using them as my Leader and Enders and I'm only using florals. I had cut the background fabric for another quilt and didn't like it with that project. It works great for this one so I'm just that much more ahead of the game....

I also did the last 4 blocks for my UFO 2, Dear Blanche. I am behind on this one but it's ok. I'm farther along than I have been in along time so I'm still ahead as far as I'm concerned!

I had time too to finish the border and I now have a complete quilt top. Here is the top I call Dear Blanche. It will be going through a name change shortly but not til it's quilted. Someone asked me before if this was the name of this quilt or if it was my name for it. This was an exchange and was named after the person that wanted to do this quilt. This quilt came from a magazine a long time ago. It was in the April 2004 issue of American Patchwork and Quilting and it was called Pink Spring Fling in the magazine. Here's Dear Blanche with all the borders on it ready for quilting! I have decided I'm not going to quilt this one. I bought a pantograph at the Dallas show and I'm going to give it to my friend , Judy and ask her to quilt it for me....Hopefully, she can get to it soon. For now, here's the finished flimsy:

I never showed you what I got finished at retreat. I did get all 4 blocks done of my Pansy Park. I have the borders ready too and they will go on next. I did get the middle part done. Now that I have all this other stuff out of the way, I'll start working on Pansy Park again and hopefully get to finish this this week. I am so excited about this quilt. It will go on my new bed and I'm changing up my curtains and everything for it...I can't wait. This quilt will be beautiful when it's finished. Here's the 4 blocks and the middle part....

Okay, I'm ready for more...I want to sew some more now but I guess I better be nice and visit with the family a little. I guess I'll go get the quilt to bind and work on it while I'm watching TV with them....til next time..

Saturday Sewing

I have been working on various things today. I have so enjoyed the day and will take pics later and post. The weather has been so nice and pleasant and I've gone out a few times on the back porch to sit and enjoy and see what the dogs were barking at....I can't stay away from the sewing machine too long though as I really have the sewing urge today. Don't you just love it when it's like that? I think it's wonderful to feel the draw of creativity, it's so exciting. I just don't want to do anything else...I'm trying to get some little things out of the way and the more blocks I work on the better or more excited I get. Sewing is so much fun....got to go for now. It was a coke break and gotta get back at it. I'll post later and let you know what all I did! til next time....

Friday night sewing with Heidi, Pinwheels and friendship blocks

Friday night was sewing with Heidi night. I didn't get alot done but I did get two friendship blocks done for my friend, Judy. She passed her blocks out at the meeting on Thursday. She has chosen to do a quilt out of one of the magazines and she wants reproduction fabric. One of my favorite things! Here's a picture of the two blocks that I completed for her, I hope she likes them...

I also worked on pinwheels. I saw a tutorial on Karen's blog, Quilt Frenzy on pinwheels and I wanted to try it out. Here's a link to her tutorial. A good way to do pinwheels, especially if these little boogers aren't your favorite. I do recommend starching your fabric first. I like that light starch, Mary Ellen's Best Press. It makes your fabric smell good too...

My Small group - Sew What's

Thursday night was my small group meeting. We have alot of talent in our group and it is always fun to get together. Here's some pics for you to enjoy.

Here's two of the friendship quilts...or should I say blocks that have been put together for the exchanges...I can't wait to see how they are really put together. The blocks are great! This year's exchanges have been so much fun! I'm really looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.

Rosemarie is finishing up old projects before she starts new ones. These are some that she pulled out to finish.

Diane made this for a friend of hers that's going through chemo...

Anna has been working on this one for awhile. It is lovely and was worth the wait...

Glenda likes the floating 4 patch block that we have been exchanging. She has made this quilt using these blocks but it is not part of the exchange. This is her second quilt to make using this block.

This is an amazing memory quilt made by Lois for a friend that lost her husband.

These were Christmas blocks won by Lois a few years ago...She says she's starting to like blue.

Sharon worked on this at retreat. I sat across from this quilt all weekend and enjoyed it coming together. This is a Kaffe Fassett pattern and I'm going to have to break down and make one too. I love this scrappy quilt.

Sally wouldn't hold still long enough for me to get a good picture but I had to show you what I did get.

Here's another one of Sally's. I never did catch the name of this one but I like this one too.

Last but certainly not least:
This is a raffle quilt for the Greenville Quilt Guild. Phyllis is a member of that guild and visited with us tonight. She helped design and make this quilt. The quilt is lovely. The design is great and the quilting is wonderful. I hope I win this one!

A Sweet Gift: Teddy

Hey, I just got home from Tatting and I had a sweet package in my mail. I'm so excited!!! Jane aka Loopy Lou sent me one of my favorite things. A new Teddy! Actually, I admired her Teddy on her blog and raved about it so much, she made me one. Teddy's brother! She sent me a sweet card too. Oh, Jane, thank you so much. Teddy is so happy with his new brothers and sisters and seems to be fitting in already. He says he had a very safe trip and thinks he will be very happy here. Look, I took some pics so he could say hi to you...He says not to worry, he's sure he'll like his new home.
