Quilt Happenings, Easter, birthday

Hey there. Nothing much has happened this week. I went to my guild meeting Tuesday night in all the rain and only a few people showed up. I started not to go either but I was the person in charge of the program that night. We were sewing a disaster quilt and I had the fabric. I picked out 20 fat quarters from my stash and cut it up for a Turning 20 quilt top. There were only 10 people that came to the meeting, 4 of us sewed, 2 ironed and a couple of others laid out the quilt. We got the top together before we left. I decided the quilt was not big enough so decided to add borders. I didn't have enough fabric so had to buy some. I went to the LQS Wednesday afternoon and bought the border fabric. The borders are on. I went over to one of ladies home's on Friday night. She is in charge of community service projects and she had alot of fabric that had been given to her. I picked out fabric for the backing. I will put it together and take it to the quilter on Monday.

I had to work at the quilt store today. Alot of ladies came in talking about the Dallas quilt show. Everyone had good things to say about the show. They were all saying they wished they had more time to work on their quilts which got me to thinking about my time to sew. That also made me start thinking about Retreat!

Retreat is coming! April 18! Oh boy, I can't wait. By that time, I will have another project to work on cuz Bonnie at Quiltville announced the new mystery quilt. It is called Orange Crush and I will be working on that one too. I am still working on my Carolina Crossroads and hopefully will be through with that one soon...It has been alot of fun but I am looking forward to getting it all together....I will post a picture of that one when I'm further along. I just haven't had any time to work on my stuff lately but will next week after Easter.

Tomorrow is not only Easter but also my sweet DIL's birthday. Happy Birthday, Carrie! She likes to decorate cakes but she never has had lessons so I have paid for classes at Michael's for her birthday. She knows about it already and seems to be excited about it..(I had to tell her cause she's a busy lady and she had to check her schedule and make sure she could go on the days of the classes....) I will be babysitting for her if my son can't keep the kids. Oh boy, Grammy time! I love it....Fun times with my grandbabies.

Gotta go for now, have a blessed Easter.

Dallas Quilt Show, New Books, Old Magazine Find, QNN and QuiltersTV

The show was great. Beautiful quilts, great vendors and good friends, can't beat anything like that! I was going to go to the show with some friends and they all backed out. They went on Saturday and wore themselves out and couldn't go on Sunday. I went and walked around and took my time to admire all the beautiful quilts. There are so many talented people in the quilt world, it is amazing! I was able to pick up the two Civil War books I have been wanting. Our local shops have been sold out of these books so I got them at the show. I picked up Civil War Love Letters and The Amish Circle Quilt Book, both of these written by Rosemary Youngs. I'm still working on my Civil War Diary Quilt blocks but didn't want these books to not be available when I wanted them. Also, this way, I can read the books ahead of time and enjoy the stories. I might even start on these blocks and work them along the way too....too many quilts, not enough time!

Several months ago I joined QNN, Quilter's News Network and I have been watching the videos on this online quilt program. Fons and Porter are high profile on this site and you can watch their videos 24/7. One of the programs was a basketweave quilt and I just loved this little (it was a baby size) quilt. I saw the quilt made up at the show and the shop had kits made up with the old magazine (Jan/Feb 2007 issue) included in the kit. I did not want the fabric and was able to sweet talk the shop owner into selling me the magazine. Nice lady! I think she got tickled at me....I saw the quilt from across the aisle and I practically ran into her booth. I didn't even wait for her to quit talking to other customers , I just blurted out, "Is that the same quilt that was on the Fons and Porter Video?" She laughed and said yes, it was! I was so excited about it that I think it thrilled her too. I ended up with the magazine and there are several other good patterns in it too. I am so pleased and can't wait to give this pattern a try...Isn't it funny how something so minor can make us so happy?

I like QNN but you do have to join that one. Another site that I go to is QuiltersTv and it is free. Try that one out...Both are good. I found one on Saturday, it is Kay Woods TV but I haven't watched it yet so I can't say if it is any good. I'll start watching that one and let everyone know...'til next time, quilty hugs.

National Quilting Day 2008

March 15th is National Quilt Day. Find details at NQA (National Quilting Assoc).

HAPPY NATIONAL QUILTING DAY. I hope each of you gets time today to sit down and do some kind of quilting or to do something quilty.

It was a real struggle but I had to work at the LQS today while my other co-workers worked at the Dallas Quilt Show. I did get to meet some nice ladies coming to the shop after they went to the show...They just didn't get enough of a fix from the show! Anyway, I get to go to the show tomorrow and see the quilts and see if there's anything new out there that I just can't live without. From what I heard today, the Quilt show was a success and the quilts looked great! I'll let you know tomorrow! Gotta go now, I have some sewing to do and can't stay away from my machine any longer. Quilty hugs....
