Sunday Sewing, DP4 quilt and DP9 Quilt and now for some slow Sunday stitching!

I decided to take your advice and make some more blocks.  I thought I would make a few blocks this afternoon and then do some binding or knitting to join in with the Slow Sunday Stitching over at Kathy's Quilts blog.Once I started sewing, I couldn't stop until all my blocks were ready for this quilt!  I cut out more white fabric for my blocks and started sewing the blocks together to make the 4 patches.  I got 52 four patches done.  Out of the 52 four patches I finished 20 DP4's.  I  have already started putting it together and it's going to look great, I think.   I called my husband in to help me put it the blocks on the top of the design wall and asked him about the color arrangement, if I needed to move any around or what have you...He said no, it was ok as is but he also said he didn't like the blocks or the quilt!!!  I told him it would look better once the borders were on it and he said, yeah, I hope so.  Well, I never!!! Imagine that! A quilt he doesn't like.  Oh well, it's not for him anyway.  He usually likes what I do but he doesn't like this one too much at all.  It will look good when the border is put on and quilted and I know he'll change his mind.  Here's a picture of the blocks on the design wall.  I went ahead and did 7 X 9, so it should be big enough with the borders too...

 

I did make more pink today and can't wait to find out what the new color for next month is...

 

 

Here's the leftover 4 patches ready to cut up to make more DP4's.  These are big 4 patches. I'm using 5" squares for them and once cut down they will end up being an 8" block.  I'm enjoying this block and I hope my granddaughters will enjoy the quilts too.

I also did some more big 9 patches for the DP9 QAL. I cut all of those up and  I laid a few blocks out on my cutting board just to see how they were going to look.  I think it will be ok for a scrappy quilt. I used red in the center just to bring them together. I've used all kinds of scraps in this and I can't wait to see what it's going to look like...

 

Ok, I'm through sewing for the day now. I'm going to grab my knitting and sit in front of the TV and watch some shows I've recorded.  I hope you've had a great weekend and have an even greater week.  Until next time, happy quilting!

Sewing on Sunday

This afternoon, I got to sew a little bit more.  I finished up three more turtles for community service....As it turns out, these are bigger than I first thought. I was just guestimating the size when I told you last. I measured these this afternoon and they are 28" long and 20" wide.

I put together last week's Civil War Block

and I put three more blocks together for one of my UFO's...

This is my purple quilt with some of the almost flower blocks around it.  I say almost because I ran out of white fabric and will have to buy some before I can finish these blocks.  I'll also be putting the leaves around it too.... this is on my design wall right now waiting for the white fabric to put the finishing touches onto the flower blocks.   

Another little quilt on the design wall is my Disappearing 9 patch.  I put this one together Friday night. I've decided it needs another row before a border so I have to make 4 more blocks.  I'll be doing those this week and finish this one up too.

Super Bowl Sewing and Design Wall Monday

Ok, I watched part of the game, watched lots of the commercials and I sewed too. I was running up and down the stairs to catch the game.  I got some really good exercise. I can't say that all my soreness is gone but almost...

I pulled out the blocks that I did last year for Amy's BOM and some blocks from my Pizza Box project. I picked some out and put them up on the design wall. I still have enough left for another quilt!  Anyway, I pulled out some fabric for the sashing and thought I would do stars in the sashings.  I tried this but it really didn't work.  There was too much white in the blocks, especially the corners, so the star was lost.  Why do the extra work if the star doesn't show up? 

Ok, I took this apart and pulled out some different fabric for the sashings and tried again. I really like this star fabric and I'm glad I used it.  This top is now together and is on my design wall. I'm trying to decide if I want to make it bigger or stop here and just add some borders. I'm going to sleep on it and come back tomorrow and look at it again...

I don't have alot of room in my sewing room and can't take a full head-on view of my design wall.  I hope you can tell what it looks like.  I'm really pleased with how these blocks turned out and how they went together...

When I started these blocks, I had no intention of this being a patriotic quilt but how can it not be when you're working with red, white and blue fabrics?  Oh, I love red, white and blue and now, I'm glad it's turned out to be patiotic....

Sewing, cooking and working on UFO 3

I got up this morning and the house was empty. My husband and son were gone over to a friend's garage working on their cars.  Men and their cars...what can I say. They like to work on their cars almost as much as I like to sew, so I can't complain too much.  It gets them out of the house and I get to play.  I went to my sewing room and I finished the last block to the Scrappy Sampler I have been working on.  Now, all I have to do is sew up some half square triangles and put it all together.  I was going to work on it during the week but I didn't.  Tuesday was Tatting and Thursday was knitting.  I forget what happened Wednesday but I didn't get to sew whatever it was.  Friday night I finished the next to last block and I drew off the pattern for the final pattern.  I planned on sewing on Saturday but that didn't happen.  Here's the final two blocks:

This is the final block.  Some people call this pomegranate and I've seen this referred to as a love apple also.  I don't know if there's any difference but I like this final block alot and didn't think I would....

Now, I'm making  half square triangles and I've started  putting this little quilt together. It's going together pretty  well and I hope to have it finished this week....it's alot of fun too.I'm having to use strips, 2 1/2" squares  as well as 3" squares. The 3" squares are being used for the half square triangles.  I'm using the  2 1/2" squares just as they are, kind of like a checkerboard in places...I only have scraps left for this project and I've started pulling out of my stash for this final part.     

I did stop and cook today. I made some fried potatoes and tried to make fried cornbread to go along with a pot of red beans that I made this morning. The fried cornbread didn't work out too well.   My pan was too hot or my batter too wet so I only had a small piece that turned out ok.  I have looked up some recipes on the internet and now know what I did wrong. I'll be trying this again.  I mostly just made a mess out of my kitchen and I'll clean that up later.

My guys are still gone so I got to eat this by myself.  It was ok but it wasn't anything like my Mom's.

  My Mom was a wonderful cook and I never realized it until I was grown. I was just a kid when she died and I never was interested enough in cooking to find out her recipes.  Boy, I wish I had but my sisters have helped me through the years and I am a decent cook now.  I sure miss my Mom's cooking at times though...

Sunday sewing

I made these two blocks for the Pizza Box Project.  This is block 8 and 9.  This is the last of the blocks and now they can be put together.  These are for Jeanne. My set of blocks will be given to me at our Christmas party.  They will be red, white and blue...I don't ever get tired of red, white and blue and I'll add these to the other blocks I've done this year through Amy's BOM.  I'll be putting those all together into two or more quilts.

This is a little mat my mother in law gave me. She didn't make it. She bought it from a craft show.  The binding was pretty bad so I took it off and rebound it... I love the quilting on it and I'm very pleased with it now.  

I did sew on several other things this weekend but I haven't finished them. I worked on my Brown Bear quilt and I made several more blocks for other projects too. 

 I just couldn't  seem to get it together today.  I felt totally disorganized.  I finally sat down and  made some more siggy blocks to send out. I knitted a while and watched TV and relaxed.  Hopefully, I'll get more done this week and can show you my little Brown Bear quilt.   I hope you have a great week...til next time.

Sunday Sewing and Grandkids

My guys were gone picking up an old pickup from a friend of ours. My older son has wanted this truck since he was 16 and he is now 28...He finally talked our friend into letting him buy it. This will be a project for my two sons and my husband to work on together. They were gone all day and I got some quality me time...

I worked on several things. I made up for lost time with no sewing machine Friday night. I put together all 8 strips of this Stacked Brick quilt. It is now ready for sashing and borders. This is the 3rd Stacked Brick quilt. One is finished, I just showed that one a few posts back. Number 2 and 3 are in the strip phase now. I think I'll use scraps for the sashing strips on these. I'll audition these and see which ones I like. These are all pressed and ready to be put together.






I put together two more rows for my Floating 4 Patch Quilt. It now has 10 rows and is a small square quilt. I'm going to put together more rows on this one. This one is just too small. It's so cute, I want it to be a full size quilt so I need more strips. This month is the last month for the exchange so I guess I'll put together as many as I can.





I also washed and pressed my little Nana's Flower Patch wallhanging. The pink marks came out just fine. I put the French Knots on it and some little red heart buttons. I will be putting some quilting around the hexagon and then I can frame it. The pattern called for an old looking frame but I don't want that. I know what I want, it's just finding it...If I can't find what I want, I'll get my husband to make me one. He is very talented with glass and picture framing.




Tonight, is a back to school party over at my son's house for my granddaughter and grandson. Alayna started kindergarten today and Brandon went to 1st grade. We'll be having dinner followed by cake and ice cream. Wow, where does the time go? Seems like just yesterday, they were little and crawling. Enjoy your grandkids while you can, cause they grow up too fast!

Sunday afternoon sewing and an incomplete kit

I put together the middle part of this little quilt for kids quilt kit and started putting the borders on. That's when I discovered there's not enough fabric cut for the borders. I've already sewed on two sides. I went to measure the fabric for the top and bottom and that's when I discovered the problem. Argggh, I hate it when this happens. Now, I'm going to have to take off the two sides and find some different fabric to put on this quilt. What a waste of time.... Oh well, I didn't like the border fabric anyway...
