Amy's BOM blocks

Ok, I got busy today and did my blocks for Amy's BOM....all three of them.
Block #1 is called Scrap Happy. Amy asked if anyone knew a more traditional name for this block and I tried looking for it. I found a block similar to it in Maggie Malone's 5500 block book. It's called the Royal Star and it's pretty close.



Block #2 - Double Friendship Star


Block #3-Arizona Cactus
This was not my favorite block...the middle portion was not very accurate. I suggest you make the blue 5 1/2" rectangles longer than 5 1/2". Maybe 6", then trim back as needed. My middle block was a little small.I also suggest you take smaller seams that 1/4" for the middle part...I really had to fudge on this one but it will be ok...



I just looked at Nancy's blog (Patchwork Penguin) and she picked the UFO for the month. It is UFO #2, which for me is Dear Blanche. I have 10 blocks left to do on this quilt so I better get busy this month. til next time.....

Tractor and Train quilts

I made this quilt for my grandson, Brandon, Christmas 2007. Another blogger wanted to make a John Deer tractor quilt and was looking for suggestions. I discovered that I had never taken a picture of it so this past week, when I was over visiting, he let me take a picture. So, here's his tractor quilt...This is his first big boy quilt...

I also took this picture. I don't remember when I made this one. I think it was Christmas 2006. (I always date my quilts when I sign them but I didn't look when I took this picture.) I made this for Brandon too. He liked trains, so I made this one. At the time, train fabric was hard to find...

A fun gift for a friend, 4 house blocks and a stitchery

Here's a gift I made for my friend, Carol. Her birthday was last Friday but she took some time off and will be back at work tomorrow so I want to surprise her with this little girl. She hates to celebrate her birthday but I think this will be ok...I copied this from Material Mary's blog but I added a few extras to mine. Thanks, Mary for the inspiration. Carol is the big 6-0!! Happy Birthday, Carol.










Here's 4 little house blocks for my exchange. These are 4 1/2" and we will swap these. We are half way there on this little quilt. You'll see the finished project soon!



Here's the little stitchery I've been working on. I have to press it and mount it. I'm going to put it in a frame and put some tatting around it. I'll show you the finished one in a few days. I just wanted to share it. I really like this one. I got this from Shell's blog, the Raspberry Rabbit...see the button on the right, Sentimental Journey. She's having free stitcheries all year. You can make this into a little quilt or do whatever you want to with it.

Some eye candy

Ok, I haven't posted in a few days and a friend of mine told me about it. Gee, I gotta sew sometime, huh? I'm making some blocks but not through with them yet and I'm ready to quilt the quilt but haven't had a chance. I thought I would share some pics from last week when I went to my small group meeting. Here's some things my friends have been working on. I hope you enjoy seeing these.

Well, I told you it would go together correctly. I got started and couldn't stop. Here is my little Nine Patch with Pink Stripes. I love this little quilt. I already have the backing for this and want to quilt it soon...after the fairy quilt though. I hope you had a good Saturday. The name of this quilt in the magazine was Tablemanners...

Friday Night Sewing

I am participating in Heidi's Friday Night Sew In...here's some of the thigs I sewed on last night. I decided to do what Amy does...I made a list of things I wanted to work on and that was my plan.


I did a BOM for my guild. Here's Willie's block. She chose a real simple heart pattern and wanted it scrappy. She said she did not want it pink but all colors and to do what we wanted. The squares are 3" finished, so this block finishes at 12 1/2"...



I did the last of my nine patches and put them up on my design board. I still have a few hour-glass blocks to do but wanted to see how it was going to look. I won 22 of the nine patches and 22 of the hour-glass blocks and had to do 50 more of each...I like this little quilt and I'll be working on this one this month. I want to have the top put together to show my small group next month. There were two drawings, I won one of the drawings and my friend Glenda, won the other. She and I split doing the nine patches. She did fifty and I did fifty and then we swapped...We are sewing it together and showing it next month, I hope.





(Ok, don't worry, I know some of the hour-glass blocks are put up wrong, I just wanted it on the design wall, I'll fix them before I sew.)

And, I put the binding on this little donation quilt. I'm giving this one to the Quilts For Kids. Thanks to Amy, I'm calling this one "Warm Fuzzies."






I also pinned the little fairy quilt together so I could machine quilt it. I'll be quilting this one Saturday and Sunday and hopefully get it finished this weekend. I want to send these two quilts off to QFK's asap...

Patterns and prizes in the mail and learning to do the SSSR

Ooh, I got mail! Yes, I got junk mail and bills, but no, that's not the mail I was looking for! I got two wonderful things in the mail! I got may pattern from Quilt Taffy that I ordered. Sunday Best. It is a Schnibbles pattern and you've seen these all over blogland. I saw this one on someone's blog and I can't remember who's, but I loved it. They had done this pattern in Shangri-la fabric. I have enough left overs from my last quilt to do this pattern and just had to order it...I'm anxious to start working on this one. I have to have patience though because I've got to quilt my Quilts For Kids quilt before I can start anything! I'll be a good girl and do that first.

I also got my prize from Shell over at The Raspberry Rabbit site. Thanks Shell, the scissors and pincushion are lovely. I LOVE the little rabbit scissors! Pictures just don't do these justice! Shell even sent chocolate! Of course, it was Raspberry chocolate, love it! Lovely gift, I was such a lucky girl to win these!



Last night, I had a sweet lady from Oklahoma come and stay with me. Gina from Oklahoma came down and visited us for tatting. She showed us how to do the Single Shuttle Split Ring. I have practiced this a little and got a few little dimpled hearts done...This is still a little slow for me but at least I can do it now. I tried to do it previously with instructions but just didn't get it. Thanks, Gina for showing us how to do it...My group loved you and want you to come back and visit anytime! You were very helpful!
Ron, Gina's son, also made us some Tatting Tuesday buttons! (See the purple buttons on the corners) Aren't they cute? Wasn't that sweet of Ron? Thank you, Ron, we love the little buttons!

Ok, my DIL sent me this picture. I made my sweet GD a heart/love pillowcase for her birthday. I thought this was pretty funny and had to share it. At least it's keeping her feet warm!

Tatting Visitor from Oklahoma

I had a very sweet visitor from Oklahoma. Gina B came in and visited with our tatting group. She showed us how to do the Single Shuttle Split Ring and gave us some of her patterns. We had a good time visiting with her and had a good supper too. Elaine and Ivy from our tatting group treated us to supper and of course, Nancy brought us a killer dessert. Thank you, girls. It was great! We had a good time and learned something new too. Gina does not like LBJ (635) Freeway and she thinks our traffic is terrible. Other than that, I think she did ok with finding our group. Please come back anytime Gina, it was fun.

Would you believe my camera was dead and I didn't take pictures. I know some of the girls took pics and I'll see if I can get one or two from them. Boo hoo...

Happy Valentine's Day!

This is one of my favorite days and I couldn't let it pass without wishing everyone a very sweet and Happy Valentine's Day. I hope you get alot of hugs and kisses today whether it be the chocolate kind or the real thing!

Quilts for Kids and a block for my Pizza Box Project

Last week I was visiting Amy on her blog and she was doing some Quilts For Kids. She blogged about it and gave a link. I went and visited the website and ordered a kit. This kit has everything except the batting and binding fabric. It includes instructions and backing fabric too. I got the kit on Friday and I put it together today. I'll be quilting on this one this week so I can get it finished quickly. Here's a picture of the little quilt I did. It's with fairy fabric and I think it turned out really cute.
I've been trying to think of a name for the quilt but I'm coming up blank. Please help me if you can. Any suggestions?







I've thought of Friendly Fairies or I Love to Fly but not my favorites. What do you think?


I also made the first block for my Pizza Box Project. My ASG is doing a Pizza Box Project. It's like a mystery in a box. Every month, we will do one block. You place the block in the box and pass it to the next name on the list. She does the next block and passes it on. We are doing this all year. I am in charge of this project and I'm picking the blocks. I am choosing simple blocks because these ladies are not quilters. They are sewers but have never done any quilting. I wanted to start them off easy and get their feet wet. For the first block, I chose the Pennsylvania block from Marcia Hohn's Quilter's Cache website. I love her website, she has some great patterns with great directions. We are doing 12 1/2" blocks. Here's my first block:

Snow in Texas

The snow finally stopped and I was right. (now that's not a surprise, right?) It was a new record for Texas snow...I loved the snow but we are just not used to snow like this. Our whole little bit of the world stops when this happens but I am sure enjoying the layover!

Snow in Texas

I was born and raised here in Dallas, Tx. I don't remember snow like this ever. This is amazing! They have closed the Dallas, Rockwall and Royse City schools for tomorrow already. I'm not planning on going anywhere. Maybe I can get some sewing done....

Brandon and Alayna built some snowmen....Good job kids! Today is Alayna's 5th Birthday. Happy Birthday sweetie! Brandon remembers when it snowed like this on his birthday a few years ago. Of course, they were living in Michigan at the time!

Valentine Program for my grandson , My third block for Amy's BOM and 4 Patch Exchange Blocks

My oldest grandson, Brandon, is in kindergarten and had his first school program tonight. They did 3 songs and he even had a speaking part. Way to go, Brandon, you did a great job. I am a very proud Grammy! All the kids were so cute in the program and all the kids that had speaking parts did a great job. Look at these good looking kiddos....

The program was short but sweet. We came home and had ice cream to celebrate. What fun....

I came home and had enough time to work on my BOM and here it is...Florida's Key West block. This is the third and final block this month. This block was made with templates, not my favorite thing to do but it went together better than I thought it would. I did not have to unsew cause I heeded Amy's warnings about the triangle shapes. Thanks, Amy...



I also did 10 little blocks for an exchange. I started out doing these as leaders and enders while doing my BOM. Once I had my blocks done, I added the outer sections and am now ready for the exchange. We will be exchanging 10-20 of these blocks per month so I'll show you some of these as the year progresses. You turn in 10 or however many you want and you get the same number back but all different. I'm doing this exchange in two different groups so I should get alot of different blocks and will be able to have a good scrap quilt.. Here's the blocks that I did...They are 5 1/2" blocks.
